Default Adding a HUD

Hi Everyone!

This is my first thread in a number of years, so hopefully I'm posting it in the right area.

I am in the process of 'shopping' for my first (used) C5 Corvette. Unfortunately, none of the C5s I have test drove thus far have the Heads Up Display feature.

Is something I can have added if I end up buying a Corvette that does not have one? If so, how much could I expect to pay? (I would obviously have it put in by someone else as I would be afraid to try to put it in myself).

Thanks!
Renee

Yes, you can add the HUD ..... here's a link to instructions ....

https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...=144&TopicID=1

Here's a link (scroll to the bottom) that shows the wire harness you have to make fto connect the HUD to the IPC.

HOWEVER .... there was a post here a couple of months ago from Gene Culley saying that GM was restricting shipment of replacement HUDs to vehicles with a VIN that had a HUD installed at the factory. You may want to call your local dealer, or contact Gene at

http://www.gmpartshouse.com

and see if this restriction still applies. Otherwise you may need to find a "friend" who has a HUD equipped car and "borrow" their VIN to order a new HUD.

The HUD units also come up from time to time in the parts section, and on Ebay if you are into that. They aren't cheap. PaceThis sells them, along with installation instructions, when he can get his hands on them. The install looks to be fairly straightforward (caveat being looks, I just bought a HUD and speedo cluster and am not looking forward to removing and cutting the dash myself). I got mine from Cleavland Pickapart.
Just a note, I think GM requires a one to one exchange for the HUD unit, but I could be wrong. I would PM PaceThis for details.

I added the HUD to my 2000 hardtop a few months back. It was not as difficult as I had imagined it might be. I purchased the parts from another Forum member and felt like I got a good deal.

I would recommend that if you find yourself trying to transfer an old dash bezel to your dash, that you just purchase a new one. I was able to remove the bezel from the old dash without much difficulty. But after installing it in my car, within a few weeks it had a bunch of cracks in it. I assume that the sun really does a number on these and the act of transferring it only made it worse. The worst part was removing the dash a second time to replace the bezel with a new on.

I got the new bezel from Gene Culley and it was not expensive at all... certainly less that the hassle of removing the dash a second time...

Good luck... GUSTO
