I am replacing my clutch in the very near future, and I am considering changing the gearing at the same time. I also looked at the gear ratios in the M12 transmission.
I can get nearly the same effect with the M12 as I can get from 3.90:1 gears, but the ratios are further apart.
So the $64.00 questions is am I better off going with a M12 and staying with the stock gearing (3.42:1) OR keeping the M6 and going with either 3.73:1 / 3.90:1 rear end gears?
I did the m12. I got a nused one for $1000, to replace my 100k+ T56. Good cheap way to upgrade the low gears. O basically the whole deal cost me $500 by the time I sold my old trans
I would say go with 3.90 gears. You will see more benefit from this. I was running 3.90s with my MN12 and just recently swapped my MN12 for a MN6. The MN6 and 3.90s are a sweet combination, IMO.
With the amount of power you're making the ultra low 1st gear in the M12 will make traction problematic. If your car doesn't see a lot of track time with slicks the 3.73 may be the best choice.
