I searched the forum, and found so many different ways of going about tire sizes, it seemed a little confusing. I currently have the 17/18 wagon wheels with nearly new stock size tires, and I'm looking to go with 18/19 inch rims, and was wondering what the best tire size would be for this. I was thinking of using the 275/40/18 tires that I have on my current rear wagons on my new fronts, but I'm not sure at that point what size to go with on the 19 inch rears. So my question is, what is the best comb to go with on an 18/19 setup. Thanks in advance guys.
Usually you can find recommended tire sizes for a given wheel size (and vice versa) on the website selling the wheel or tire. Try looking on www.corvetteguys.com I think they show the info.
There is lots & lots of info on tire setups here. Here is a recent thread on this. Also, you probably want to go with a total height that is equivalent to your existing setup otherwise you change the gearing in your car, have possible fittment issues with the fenders & have speedo issues as well due to the change in gearing. You can calculate the different setups of different rims sizes (17,18,19 in.) and different profile tires (30,35,40 series) very easily. There is an example in post #10 of this thread.
A 275/40/18 tire is ~1" too tall for the front. Stock C6 sizes (245/40/18 & 285/35/19) would be very close to stock dia,
thus no need to reprogram the speedo.
For the widest tire set up, go with 265/35/18 & 305/30/19. These tires would be ~.6 shorter than the C5 tires.
In order for the tires not to stick out, use 18x9.5 54-59mm offset front wheels and 19x11 62-65mm offset rear wheels.
I went with 295s on the rear because I wanted a little more tire heighth to fill out the rear wheel well (about 4/10 taller than stock). Initially I was looking at 305s but the shorter tire doesn't look right too me.
