Hi, I agree, the door trick works and the trunkpopper works. I finally got tired of the thing and got the trunk popper, took 5 minutes to install, problem over.
Good Luck
I had this condition and considered installing an assist spring. I decided to check out why it was not fully popping up.
There is a spring contained in the latch which provides a fair amount of force against the striker which is why the lid needs a decent amount of force to close and latch.
I figured that since there seemed to be enough force from the latch spring to pop it up that there had to be resistance elsewhere [the hinges].
There are multiple pivot points on the hinges. I used a precision oiler to lubricate all the pivot points and then worked the lid/hinges opening and closing to work the lubricate in.
My lid now opens about an inch as it should.
BTW, there are bumpers in the corners of the trunk lid that screw in/out to adjust the amount of pop-open.
The downside of those bumpers is that when you adjust them out so you can get your fingers under the lid, the lid doesn't lay perfectly flat when closed.
I just went by Lowes and got a spring that would fit and cut it to length. Then i bent one end to make a circle for the screw to go through. Same concept as the popper, just a DIY version and saved me a few $$$.
Do you think that if we lubricate the rubber that seals the trunk, it won't stick to the body? I have the same problem and was wondering if anyone has tried that? If so, what kind of lubricant did you use?
On the advice in this thread, lubricated all the hinges, and now the trunk pops up perfectly. Don't bother with the trunk popper if all you really need is some lube....

the trunk lid was designed to open without the assistance of an additional spring ...I lubricated the hinges and latch and worked in some silicone grease on the rubber gasket and bingo...
