hey everyone, i bought my C5 and they told me it was a Granetelli MAS on it well i was cleaning my Blackwing and took off the MAS and noticed it didn't say that at all, it looks to me like a stock GM MAS but i dunno
It says DELPHI 25168491 on it and the I.D. of the MAS measures 89mm, and also had the honeycomb screen in it. I took that out, was that a good idea if i go with a "dry N20" setup? i just thought that screen might of made the flow more even so the MAS could do a better job?
FYI, the common acronym for a Mass Air Flow Sensor is MAF.
Plenty of 500 rwhp cars run on the stock MAF WITH the screen. The screen helps spread the air across the sensor elements. If your MAF came with screens, leave 'em.
In my experience, the GMS sensor is junk however, it sounds like you have a GM sensor.
i had asked a similar question about 1 mo ago..here was my answer
From '97 to '00 the 75mm sensor had 3 wires entering the plug on the side at a 90 degree angle, and had a screen on the intake side. There was a separate wire for the temp sensor that was mounted in the air bridge.
In '01, both Z and C5 went to an 85mm sensor, with a 5-wire plug entering at an angle. The temp sensor was incorporated into the air sensor.
'02 - '04 C5 continued to use the 85mm with the screen.
'02-'04 Z used the
You have the "stock" MAF ..... and you should not have pulled the screen. You may find you have driveability problems (surging, erratic idle, ....) now that you have removed the screen.
oh flippin great! lol - well that sucks because i read everywhere too take it out and now i did and BAM don't take it out.
i wonder if i can put it back in? only problem is i think some of the fins are bent or ripped where i pushed it out from...... If i do have problems w/ idle, surging etc. What good after market MAF should i get?
You may need a tune, taking out the screen changes the air flow and the accuracy of the MAF. Tuning it can get it more accurate. Not a huge deal, but if you experience a negative change then a tune will help.
