Default Please Help With Headlights

Please Help. I Have A 1997, When I Came Home Tonight I Pulled The Car In The Garage And When I Turned The Lights Off They Went About 1/2 Way Down Then Popped Back Up And Wont Turn Off. The Lights Stay On And The Headlights Stay Up. If I Turn The Light Switch To The Center Position They Turn Off But Still Stay Up, If I Turn Them All The Way Off They Turn Back On And Also Still Stay Up. I Had To Unplug Them And Turn Them Down Manually As To Not Drain The Battery. Any Help Would Be Appreciated. Thanks

interesting problem. I know the that the gears going bad will cause them to pop back up when you try to turn them off, or cause them to pop up when you go to running lights and not head lights. I'm not sure about the lights themselves staying on though. search for threads on the headlight gears, there is a quick solution which is not terribly expensive. you'll need a small amount of mechanical know-how.
if the lights themselves are staying on the cliprit might be the multi function switch which is where the headlight controls are. these can go bad and cause all kinds of strange annoying problems.
mine needs to be replaced also, the symptom: 1 out of every 10 times, give or take, I use the right (and only right) turn signal, it will turn off my cruise control.

I had an issue with the motors trying to engage when I shut the car off. Turned out to be a ground issue. If your other solution doesn't work you may try the tips in the sticky. I used a small wire wheel on a dremel and it worked great. Good luck.

Default Check relays

Might want to check the headlamp relays in the fuse box underneath the hood by the battery. Could be a stuck headlamp relay. The legend under the cover will show you which ones pertain to the headlights. Could try a swap with another relay just to see. They are able to be inserted in any direction so that would not be a problem. But there are some that must be inserted only one way and they have a different pin configuration so you can't get in trouble.
