Another column lock question...PLEASE READ
Ok. 98 A4. Battery went dead. Got the PULL KEY WAIT 10 SECONDS. Tried that several times. Tried "shocking the steering wheel" several times. tried pulling fuses and waiting 10 seconds several times. I'm somewhat of an above average mechanic with over 15 years in 12 volt electronics. I have the service manuals and I've already located the wiring harness for the column lock. Located the column lock itself. Now, I've already searched the threads and looked at all the FAQ's. In one of the posts it says that this thing is a 12v motor? If so, can I not unplug the column lock and apply 12v to reverse this thing and unlock my wheel? What's my options besides taking it to the dealer? I'm not doing that. I will put another column in before I do that. HELP!

Thanks for the response. That's very helpful. I did get it working finally. Fuse 23 was blown. It's working fine now but your information may be very useful down the road. I work on/repair C5's and C6's on the side and this car has been a real pain. I was just about to get out the sawzall and hammer to fix the problem!
