We'll, my battery died last week after sitting about a month without driving and not having my battery maintainer on it. I know, i know, i should drive it more. Anyway, I tried to put my maintainer on it and it wouldn't charge. I got the "trouble" light. I thought this might be due to how dead the batter was and ended up jumping it and going for a drive. When i got home i put the maintain on it and it still showed "trouble".
So, the questions are:
1. Since the battery won't hold a charge or charge with my battery charger/mainainer, i assume its dead. What is the best battery for the C5? The one i have is an Optima Red Top. Its about 5-6 years old. Should i stick with the Red Top or is there something else out there?
2. While on my trip i tried to turn the headlights on and they come on but neither one opens. Is there a chance the headlights not opening is related to having a completely dead battery? Or, is there something else that is going on? I"m worried that something fried when i jump started it...
If C-5's battery isn't up to full power, lots of bad things can and will happen. Start by replacing your battery and insuring its up to full charge before attempting to fix any other issues. The headlamp controller is what actually what commands the headlamps up and down. If the lamps come on but remain down, normally its the headlamp controller at fault.
