It is real easy. Car in air, drop h-pipe, then you will see all the bolts that hold the plate on. Just make sure you unplug the o2 sensors before dropping the h-pipe. Take your time and it will be a piece of cake.

Not a hard process... On my 99, I unbolted the exhaust pipes from my headers, then unboltend them from the cat-back, then removed two bolts holding these two pipes up with springs.

Then, just unbolt the million bolts for the tunnel plate and it drops right out.

This is my X-Pipe that I removed:

Thanks sounds easy. I did notice the million bolts on the plate last week when I did the oil change and fuel filter change (a real PITA!). Is a special tool needed for the O2 sensors, I've never removed them on any car.

leave the o2's in the pipe and just follow the wires to the connectors. Then just unplug them. That is much faster and easier then trying to get them out of the exhaust pipe.

Ok...not that I want to ask a million questions (this should be the last)...but are the exhaust gaskets re-usable or should I get new ones? Thanks.

I reused mine, but I would guess it depends on how much time you've got on them?

Are they still somewhat pliable?

One great mod that I would recommend while you have the plate out is to insulate from the firewall back to the tranny with heat shield. You can get a roll along with a can of spray adhesive cheap and it really helps with heat on your leg and driveline noises. I have had my C5 apart many times and this is one of the best cheap mods I have ever done. Just an FYI!

The correct torque for the tunnel plate bolts is 89 in. lb.

I wouldn't bother reinstalling the stock tunnel plate get one from Elite Engineering, you'll be glad you did.
