Cleaning the car up today, hit the release for the hatch, nothing. Checked the fuse, seemed good, but plugged another one in, still dead. I figure the switch went bad. I mentioned it to my son, he has driven it a couple times this week. He said he went to pop the hatch and nothing, he tried the fog lights, they came on, but now they will not turn off. Are the fog lights and hatch on the same switch? Hatch pops with the key fob, but not the dash switch. Hmm, I am thinking bad switch. Any help/suggestions are welcome.
Two fuses. You probably found fuse #39 good. Now you need to check fuse #32. It feeds hatch relese, and fog lamp switches. This is from '02 service manual, yours could be different.

Mine is different. 32 is the fuel door release. Anyone have any other ideas?
Hi, the fuse that's common to the front fogs and the hatch release is in the underhood fuse box, #6--10amp. Also Micro Relay 39 has to be good. If that's not the problem it may be the connectors have come loose from the switch. I've seen that happen.
Good Luck

Underhood 6 is good. Will check out the relay and the connectors.
Hi, there is another relay there for the backup lamps,(micro relay#38) that is the same, you can switch them to check, also if the relay is good when you check the connectors on the switches themselves you can short the connector ends to see if the hatch or fogs work, if they do you know the switch is bad.
Good Luck

To clarify, the fogs are on and won't turn off. The hatch will not release using the button, but will release using the key fob. I will try the relay test and see, but I am still thinking that it has to be the switch assembly.

Hi, just to clarify, did you check fuse #26 in the ip fuse block, it powers the hatch relay. And you said #6 was good. And you said you checked #32 ip center, and you said it was the fuel door , but it shouldn't be. It is the fog light switch power source, unless you have an export car. Then it would be Rear compartment and fuel filler door fuse. Also check the ground for the Hatch release switch which is G302 located on the right hand B Pillar ,(pillar that is next to the pass side seat back under the trim. If you want to check the switches, pull the connector off of the fog switch and use a coutinuity tester on the switch terminals work the switch off and on, you should have continuity when on, and no continuity when in the off position. Also when you pull the connector off the fog switch the fogs should go off. If not the connector pins are shorted. The hatch release switch is a momentary switch. so pressing it should give a continuity reading for a second or two. Short the pins on the connector to test the circuit.
Good Luck...
Then, I said what the heck, I checked #32 Labeled "F/TNKDR" (per owners manual "fuel tank door"), but #32 was blown. Replaced it and all is well. Go figure.

Glad that fixed it, and thanks for posting the results!
