I have a 2003 Z06 and the reverse lock out is not working. The car lets the shifter wander over into the reverse area at any speed. So I have to be extremely careful when going into 5th gear or I will grind reverse. What is the cause for this? Thanks
I would love to know the answer to this to. I have the same problem but I think mine is only at high rpms. Be very careful because I hit the reverse gear and now it will not stay in reverse unless I hold the shifter in.

The cause for this can be several things .... the solenoid failed in the "open" position .... the wiring to the solenoid has been damaged .... the connector to the solenoid has come loose ....
I'd first check and see what DTC are set, the car probably has recognized there is a problem and the DTC may help pinpoint the issue.
All of my codes were history codes. It only does this sometimes while driving. About 50% of the time I would say. There were a lot of codes that said loss of communication with some component or another. What's up does any one know?

Just because a code is in a History status doesn't mean anything unless you know when that code gets set to "History". For example, any DTC for brake issues (ABS, etc.) are immediately set to "H" as soon as you shut off the engine. So a failure of, say, the system relay (C1214) in the EBCM will only show as "Current" when the ignition is in the ON position.
Communication errors are fairly common as the Class2 Serial Data Bus is pretty slow by today's standards ... it runs at about the speed of a dial-up connection .... so it is not uncommon for a computer to be unable to issue a SOH message when it should, causing other computers to issue the comm errors.
If your saying that the reverse lockout works about half the time, that sure points to an intermittent connection. Either a wire or a connector is loose.
Thanks for the input, do you know where I would need to look to find a connector that could be affecting this. Would it be near one of the computers under the battery, under the passenger footwell, or under the console near the shifter?

It is a simple circuit .... so the most likely place that the connection is bad is where the wiring connects to the solenoid. The solenoid is located on the driver's side of the transmission, high up. That's where I'd look first.

Access to it may be easier from the passenger side, at least the guys that have installed the viper washer mod have indicated that; which brings to mind a question for me. If the car was previously owned, maybe someone installed the viper washer mod and used a washer that was too thick?
