I've used tirerack and thought they were GREAT. The price was the best I could find and they had in-stock an oddball tire-size that I wanted (315/30R18). I paid no sales tax and 2nd day shipping was only $17. I ordered on a Monday and had the tires installed that Wednesday.
Good price, quick delivery sums up my experience.
They say you can order tires through tirerack on the forums to support the forums but damned if I can get that stupid thing to work. Went back and tried again after Troy gave a posting with better directions but it was still retarded and giving me error messages so I ended up ordering straight from the http://www.tirerack.com mainpage.
Old tires provide traction problems in rain   :
Justin, when I looked at the pictures you posted above, I didn't even recognize the top one as a tire at first. Damn that thing was bald!
I've had good experience with Tire Rack over many, many years - bought many wheels and tires from them. I was a little upset when I ordered my Michelins a few weeks ago. The only warehouse they had them in was Reno, so I had to pay freight from there. I told them it should not have been at my expense that they did not have them in a closer warehouse - but they would not give in on the shipping. In my business, I could never get away with telling a customer I am out of a product at the local warehouse so he would have to pay extra to have shipped from a farther point.
I bought the tires because I was pretty deperate (had my old ones sold), but it is this kind of thing that chips away at loyalty (are you listening, Tire Rack!). Next time I will shop a little more locally because of this treatment.
