You can check the trans fluid with the car running and hot and there is a dipstick and you check what the level is. If it needs trans fluid you can put the new fluid down the dipstick. honestly though it sounds like you will need a new trans. I have had 3 cars (I am 21) and I have had transmissions in each one of them (you think I would learn not to abuse them). I am not a trans expert but I have had a similar situation before. What were you doing to the car before this happened?
There is no dipstick for the tranny on a C5..The trans mission is at the rear of the car, you check it like a manual, with the fluid fill hole..Gotta put it on a lift.
daaamn, tisk tisk bro 150K? I think you forgot to factor in repairs when you bought the car. Definately check the fluid level. If it is full, take it somewhere reputable and have them flush it and change the filter. Then reboot. Try everything before you replace the tranny. Doesn't seem like it went to me.
Here is what broke. Copy this and take it to your mechanic. ...and everybody get off of him, if I was 19 and I just bought a vette and it broke, I'd be in a panic too.

i live in toronto , canada
i did do the diagnosis, but it shows up nothing but air sensor, cuz the aftermarket in take i have
sorry to ask, but what is a shift solenoid ?
There are electrical solenoids inside the transmission that control the fluid pressure and when the car shifts. It may just be a matter of removing the pan and replacing one of the solenoids like the one that controls the 2-3 shift. On other cars I have had, when the pressure control solenoid went out, the car would start out in high gear and would not shift. I had a Camaro that stuck and it would not shift out of 1st gear.
Yes, help him realize THE TRANS HAS TO COME OUT! 150K miles-man, I'll bet there are going to be a few more "surpises" right around the corner when the trans comes out (torque tube, 1/2 shafts, shocks,....)-start saving those nickles-now you get to learn about what owning a Corvette is all about now.
I'm having tranny issues right now - car shifts perfect through all gears until the tranny fluid heats up, to around 212, then won't go into overdrive, and makes a loug dragging noise...i'd check the fluid first...start simple, even looking for leaks in the back.
Added a half quart to mine a few days ago, and instant results...so, I'll change all the fluid tihs week - for now - it's garaged.
Good luck with your transmission. I'm reading this thread thinking replys are about 50/50 ****** versus friendly helpful Vette owners. Lighten up people and try to remember when you were young.
Those are your exact symptoms. It doesn't seem like the 4 parts you would have to replace would be all that expensive, but getting to them isn't cheap. Take the picture I posted to some of the mechanics/transmission shops in your area and see what they would charge you to go in there and replace those parts. If you aren't afraid to work on your own car, maybe you could take the tranny out yourself and save quite a bit there. Even thought our trannies are in the rear, internally they aren't much different than most GM trannies have been for years, (turbo 350, 700R4, 4L60) so they aren't really "special" and the cost to work on them should be within reason.

Theres no such thing, I would venture a guess of a minimum of $2600. Your only other option maybe one of the forum vendors which is a corvette recycler. You maybe able to find a low mileage trans there that would work and is not another problem itself.
This is one of those things you have to factor into buying a 150K mile car whether its a corvette or not; with a 150K miles on it I would expect costs like this and start saving for more. As for the sunshell being a possible cause, even if it is you are still looking at the cost of a trans rebuild to get at it.
Yep it's your sun shell, I shattered mine one day getting on it. Lost 2nd, 4th, and reverse, take it to a shop that has experience working on corvettes that will pull it out and rebuild it with a performance sunshell, the dealer will put a remanned tranny in there with the same sunshell that you had and it will happen again down the road, so just make sure the shop plans to rebuild it, not replace it. Cost about $2500 with labor and parts and about 2 days to do mine at a local shop here.
Let's see what the final bill is when he's done-should be interesting. Bet it's going to be more than $2500.
Does not have to be
What exact code are you getting, you say its an intake sensor. If it is the IAT (Inlet air temp) sensor, then it will not be of any concern to your transmission.
If it is the MAF (mass air flow) sensor, some GM calibrations set the transmission into a safe mode and command max line pressure in the transmission when this code is set by a bad MAF. Now, this does not cause exactly the symptoms you are describing but its worth looking at before you assume it is the transmission.
