Tubbing 01' Coupe
FUN4JT, did you glass the skirts while they were in place? Or did you create some sort of jig to hold them while off the car?
Any pointers welcome...
I'm not planning on glassing the inner liners as I don't have to section them.
He're the scoop.
Starting from the "front" inside side of the fender liner, cut the inner liners from a point that is in line with the top of the frame out 7". Make a 90 degree turn (towards the rear of liner) and proceed to cut at 7" (from the
inside of the liner) out towards the rear of the liner. Another 90 degree turn and cut back towards the inside of the liner at a point in line with the frame. You should have one piece that fits the section of the body from the front 1/4 panel to the rear and one piece that fits in the tubb section with a gap that equals the distance you moved the inner fenders. The piece that fits in the tubb section will require a little heat at the front radius to conform to the shape of the glass job. This is the section that is removed and flattened to align with frame during the glassing process. A heat gun for removing paint and a little patience will take care of it. Put a towel behind the liner as a heat sink and work slowly.
Also you will probably need to remove portion's of the liner that protrudes at the lower front frame mount. It proturdes approximetely 3/4" and was a point of contact with the 345's.
How do you fill the gap? This is where the additional liners come into play. Cut
the new liner similar to the original liner with the exception of moving the cut line in towards the inner liner the amount of gap plus overlap. If you tubbed your car 2" then cut the liner a least 4" from the inside of the liner, this would equal a 2" overlap between the inner and outer liners. Position (screw em in place) the liner pc and mark, drill (carefully) and rivit the two pc together. The more overlap the stronger. Don't forget to reinstall the foam dampning on to the top of the liners.
George, thanks for the offer. We'll hook up with the next mod (NOS?).

the back side to give them more strength.
How much did your second set of liners cost you? Where did you order them from? I might take that route if my glass job croaks/cracks.
Fichtner Chevorlet was were I purchased the liners, speak to Bob. They were about $60 per side, plus shipping to San Jose. I'll include photo's with
the how too. Are you planning to post pic's? The more information the better.
Let me know how the glassing work's out.
Jim
My glassing skills leave a huge amount to be desired. In fact, I down right suc at it. I painted the entire inside of the liners black so it would hide some of my major mistakes. I am going to seriously consider throwing out the liners and buying 2 new sets and did it the way you did -- I look forward to seeing your pix of where you cut the liners.
I only tubbed out an inch so at least the carpeting fit back in place with no cutting required. The cutting was easy, relocating the brackets for the liner was easy, glassing the inside of the car was relatively easy since neatness didn't count, but those fender skirts were NO fun at all.
Let's see: 4 x $60 here we come...
