My cold air mod details
Been back at Camp Perry for a month, here are some details and answers to questions I have received.
A 12"X12" screen just won't quite do it UGH!!!! I used McMaster-Car stock #85385T918 it is 12"X24" SS 5X5 mesh .041" Wire Dia. About $33 shiped last Jan.That may be the next size larger wire dia than others have used but I felt for the larger span it would hold it's shape better. I have the thinner gauge on the sides and Ya don't notice the differance. One can still cut it with out too much trouble with a good!!! (prob not harborfreight),pair of left cut aviation snips. Or I suppose right cut if you are left handed.
The edging is the auto parts store flexable, black, rubber(?),about 3/8" wide. A little heat helps make the corners easyer.
As I recall I left the hole in the "bumper" stock untill I was sure that I liked the "look". Later I opened up the hole as much as I could and still back the new screen. Since I have a ESC Novi the area behind all this is a bit different than stock. ((((I also ran a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe with a 90 on each end from side to side to hold up and suport the lip of the "bumper" after the intercooler et all was in place. Really opened up the slot and I havent seen this addressed in any of the SC install info))) Then I just found 4 places I could tie off SS safety wire to hold the screen in place.
The side vents are about the same as others have done but I velcroed a 45 digree plastic rain gutter elbow on each side. They make a narrow one that just fits in the home made cut out and directs the air more towards the center.
Not really a big deal after Ya get over cuttin" on your Vette hahahahah Hope this gives Ya the idea of how I did mine.
Hasta
