temps on a 2 hour drive never got over 212* (unless i was behind a semi)

i'm still going to replace the tank (i'm going to do the Canton Aluminum one so i dont have to worry about it again)

hopefully i can get temps to drop even farther
I get the feeling you don't understand the importance of pressurization in the cooling system. I would not be driving the car down the block, let alone for 2 hours, with a crack in the coolant tank.

So i ordered the Canton coolant tank....

Disappointed.

They advertise that the stock cap works, nope.
It is not a direct replacement, you will need longer bolts in order to screw it down
and there is no way to install the coolant level sensor.

email i got from canton:
" We describe our tanks as a better looking option than the stock plastic tank, and that they will fit in the same location as the stock tank.
Our tanks are not designed to use the level sensor. Generally the connection is grounded and the sensor deadened.
This tank we incorporated the mounting holes into the body of the tank. The solution would simply be to obtain longer hardware.
As to the cap, I apologize. This is a typo under the product. It takes a radiator style PSI cap."

I must admit, I'm a little confused at your choice. Looking at the Canton website:

http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/...ion&key=80-225

it is easy to see that the coolant tank will not accept a factory C5 screw on cap, and the description reads " which accepts stock cap or our part #81-016 pressure cap", which is a contradiction in itself when you look the #81-016 pressure cap:

http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/...ion&key=81-016

I have seen these tanks between $160 and $198, where the factory replacement coolant tank is available from GMParthouse for $58.29. Your factory coolant tank lasted 10 years, and even if you had to replace it every ten years, the car would be over 30 years old before it outweighed the cost of the Canton tank. The factory replacement seemed like a no brainer to me. Hopefully, others will read and learn from your experience.

This is a good thread. The T section that supplies the tank with the returning coolant line (from the heater core) broke today. I had a security guard come to my cube and escort me to the garage to see. (WHEW! NOT ANOTHER LAYOFF!)

It was only a little bit of coolant and after inspecting the engine bay and seeing what side it came from, I jiggled the hoses saw it squirt towards the headlight out of the corner of my eye.

Local oil change place popped the hose off, glued the fitting back on with some silver adhesive that supposedly hardens like metal.

I'll definitely be getting the factory replacement but had hoped to get the aluminum version instead so I wouldn't have to do this again. I also thought maybe it would look kinda tricked out or aid in cooling but forget it. Without the sensor and fussing with fitting issues, no thank you. I'll take my chances with a stocker.
