New to the site. Just got my first corvette; 97 M6 coupe. I've done all the basic maintenance items. Learned alot from this site, thanks.
How much air flow do you people get from your HVAC units. I've been driving the car every where with the roof off so I had not, until now, noticed how little air flow the HVAC unit puts out. I was driving home last night with the roof off and it was pretty chilly and I was in shorts and a T-shirt. The heater couldn't even keep me warm. I have the dual zone auto unit. In manual with the dash vents selected and fan on full, I get a whiff of air out the vent on the drivers door and a little bit more out the center vent and the two passenger vents. Same thing with the air conditioning.
I've tried to do searches under "low air flow" with no success. The results of some searches can be opened while others only give the Title and when I try to open they read "thread not specified, contact administrator". I found one thread entitled "HVAC low air flow" but it gave me this error when I tried to open.
Does the vette just have poor air flow in the cabin or due I have a blockage?
You could have a problem; you will want to check the codes to see what you can determine from there. I have a 97 and recently replaced both actuators (electronic motors in the dash which operator the vents) and corrected a vacuum line problem. The actuators break teeth off the small gears inside over time. But check the codes first. Do a search on AC and you will probably get alot of hits.
My fan Squirrel Cage was full of leaves and junk that slowed the flow through my system. It is easy to get at and remove. While I was at it I cleaned-out the rest of the area with the vac. Don't forget to check the drains while your at it too.

I'll check the codes tonight. Last time I checked all was good but I'll recheck tonight.
I don't get any error codes under HVAC in the DTC.
I believe that the actuators don't move at all. I can run the system in manual, fan on full and hit the mode button to switch from feet to dash to defrost and I get the same amount of wimpy air flow out of all vents no matter what mode I'm in. I don't hear the actuators moving even if I run the system with the engine shut off.
Do you get a decent airflow through your defrost vents at all times when the system is on? That is a comon problem with the C5, the re-routing of air vents no matter which button you push. If that is the case, the problem usually stems from a broken vaccum line.
I pulled the battery and it's leaking. No crack that I can see; it seems to come from the caps. The battery is only 2 months old; a terminator or eliminator or something like that from Canadian Tire. I'll be taking it back. When I got the car 2 months ago, I checked under the battery and no leakage. It was a Delco profesional, no leakage but it was basicly dead. Guess I should have put in an AGM battery when I replaced it.
There was a broken vaccum line under the battery tray, just like you guys said. Not sure if it was from acid or something else.
After I get everything cleaned up and repaired I figure my original air flow problem will be repaired.
Thanks,
you people are the greatest. I don't know how that one guy gets some of those pictures.

Hi, your airflow should be back to normal after fixing the vacuum hose. make sure to inspect the check valve and the air cannister to confirm no acid damage. And the important thing is to neutralize the battery acid by washing all touched areas with a baking soda solution, then clean with detergent and water, being very careful to not get water into the electrics down there, and repaint the areas as needed. As for a new battery, I haven't heard of anyone complaining of a recent built,(within the last few years ), AC Delco leaking. That's what I would get, and to be safe I would put a Battery Acid Absorber Mat under it.
Good luck
