I installed a cam in my 2000 vert about six months ago and replaced the oil pump at the same time. I followed the procedure for a cam install on LS1 tech and it did not have a step to align the new oil pump on the crank shaft, so I did not clearance the pump housing when I installed it. The engine runs fine and has normal oil pressure, but I am second guessing myself now on whether I should go back in and clearance the pump housing properly. Advice??
Many people simply bolt them up and go, never looking back and have no issue. I have even talked with a couple of reputable shops that do it. You will be fine I'm sure.

Are you referring to the step where you center the pump on the shaft by using some feeler gauges?

Sounds like it. Not sure who came up with this method, it is not in the service manual and I still don't understand what it buys you. The center gear self aligns.

I didn't do it on mine and no problems.
Good to know. I am getting ready for my cam swap soon.
