Default Headlight problem I need new rubber stoppers help? :(

My headlights I have repaired with brass gears. Now sometimes my light will not close or open all the way or blinks. I know what the problem is I just cant find the parts. I took a look and there is a beige/ light yellow colored square chicklet gum sized stopper on the actuator arms of the motor. It is located on the 2000 corvette motors and it actually stops the headlight motor actuator arm in the right spot when turning off the headlights. Well mine is worn off and the arm is now passing it causing it to blink and sometimes not go up. Where can I get these stupid things? They look like they are about a $.05 part but no one has them or even has the same problems as mine. I tried replacing one with the one from the good passenger side and it is now wearing as well. If I have to show a pic I will re-post but they look like a chicklet piece of gum that is light yellow and is directly on the motor arm. Without this little piece the actuator arm will just keep going round and round and will not know when to stop when it is closed or opened. Does anyone have replacements or a fix as in a metal stopper? The pressure of the actuator arm closing and opening and stopping on this little hard rubber piece is wearing it down every 3 months or so and I am out of ideas of what to stick in there

PM me please if anyone has a cure or the stoppers for sale.

Peace

Hmmm, are you talking about the white plastic stops for the actuating arm? There are two white stops on the headlight assembly frame that stops the actuator. Now on mine I am actually missing one on my passenger side headlight, but my actuator arm still hits the the metal tab the the white plastic stop was on. If yours doesn't I would look at why it misses the metal tab.

As for finding the white stop, you are right. Nobody carries them that I am aware of. Some have gotten a piece of small vacuum/fuel rubber tube and forced it over the metal tab. I have read that you need a hard piece of tubing, as a soft piece may cause headlight cycling.

yep those are the ones. The ones on the headlight frame I am using as spares as they seem to do nothing else but I have already worn them out as well. The actuator arm is just sitting on these tabs but after opening and closing about 100 times they put so much force on them that the arm begins to slide off them and then next thing you know the arm is now passing by this little tab and the headlight now blinks. It has done it on both sides almost like the tabs are not long enough as they are barely holding the arm on now

Did you use Rodney's rebuild kit? Could it be that this kit has a reinforcing "T" plus washer to support the gear housing cover, which may push the linkage off the tab? Could you put a washer on the gear shaft to force the linkage more towards the gear housing so it won't slip off?

I had the same problem and ordered some of those little stoppers a year or so ago. The GM part number is 16524060. You can order them online or through your local stealer but odds are that they won't be in stock at the stealers. They are exactly the part that you are looking for.

The stealer will have to be able to order them because they were part of a TSB in 2000 related to premature wear of those stoppers. You also have 2 additional stoppers on the back of the headlight frame right below the back lip of the headlight door cover. You could borrow one of them in the mean time.

The fix is to put a washer between each the motor and frame on each bolt holding the motor to the frame. This will move the arm over towards the tab so that it actually hits into the tab instead of going by it. Then, the stoppers should last better.
