Default Fuse keeps blowing...

The fuse to my fuel door, also powers the hatch release/fog light switch keeps popping. Where do I start? Keep in mind that I am electrically challenged.

TIA

If your electrically challenged, take it to a shop. You have a wire pinched somewhere shorting out the circuit. It is going to take some skill to find it and you may not be up for it. DO NOT PUT IN A LARGER FUSE!!! You could burn up more wiring and really cost you some money.

Seems odd that all of a sudden there would be a wire pinched, nothing has been done to the car in over a year. That being said, I think I will pull the console apart and check the wiring to the filler door, since that has been apart several times for shifter change, satillite radio install, etc. Only time the dash has been disturbed was to install the CLB, so it makes sense to check out the console wiring first. Thanks for the starting point.

Any chance something metallic got in your center console cig. lighter? I would think (could be wrong) the cig. lighter would be on the same circuit there next to the fuel door switch.

Unfortunately, you are wrong. The Auxiliary Power Drop in the console is fused off Fuse 1 in the I/P fuse block and is the only device on the circuit. The fuel door release is fused off Fuse 32 in the I/P fuse block, and that same fuse also powers the Traction/Suspension Control switch and the Fog Lamp/Rear Compartment release switch.

Pull the little panel on the console (traction control, passenger airbag plate) and the back console and disconnect both the fuel door release and the traction/active handling control switch and see if it still blows the fuse...that would eliminate those at least....gets you down to the wiring to that point and the hatch release?

Fixed. At least is seems to be. Finally got around to pulling the rear console and found a pinched wire on the fuel door release, taped up the bare spot and re-routed. Cycled the door, hatch and fogs about 15-20 times, seems all is well. Thanks for the inputs.

That makes my day. Don't worry, I won't say, "I told you so". I am glad you found the problem.
