I have heard of tuners being able to kill the fuel shutoff but I don't believe a tuner can prevent the column locking up...that's an issue between the BCM and the locking device in the steering column....
Very true but if you remove the lock plate then there is no way for the steering wheel to lock. I have mine removed and I also have tuned out the fuel cut off. I'm glad because I had a CLB fail when I was away from home. I got the column lock message but was still able to drive like normal. Just make sure the plate is removed or bad things could happen..
Thanks to those of you that provided useful replies. I hadn't realized that there is more than 1 computer in the car and that the ECM isn't used for the body functions.
Well, I turned it off using HPTuners, and yesterday I got the pull key and wait message, but I didn't care, by the time I noticed it I was doing 75 on the interstate..
Here's what I've got in my 'system' section of my tune: and I can garuntee it didn't shut me down @ 2mph like it says it should.

With Hp Tuners, setting the Column lock to "disabled" or raising the Fail Fuel/Cut VSS speed to 255 mph will not disable the column lock. Either setting will prevent fuel cut off if there is a problem with the column lock.
The column lock is controlled by the BCM & the column lock relay.
You can program the engine control module to ignore any fuel cut-off from the body control module so the engine will aways run.
You can not program the body control module to quit trying to make the column lock work. You will still get the warning if something is wrong. If the lock is still connected it could still lock the column and then stick while the column is locked.
And finally - THERE IS NO PLACE TO INSTALL A TUNING CHIP IN A C5.
