Why does my passenger side headlight motor keep spinning after the light has closed. Sounds like a hummingbird on steroids flapping it's wings! The light closes and the motor rachets for about 5 seconds or so. It all started when the light wouldn't open at the inspection station. We opened the hood and hand-cranked the motor to free up the light, now there's this new problem.
It sounds like you have a stripped gear in the motor. They are plastic and many Corvette owners have experienced what you are going through and have changed them out to brass gears.
Check out Rodney Dickman's site below. He has everything you need to correct this issue. Do both motors as your other one will eventually be a problem too. Note that there are different parts and procedure for 2000 - 2004
I agree, had the same thing on mine recently. Bought the brass gears and did the replacement. I have an 04 and found I did not have to pull the entire assembly to get the motor off. Just removed the hood stop so I could get my hand in there. Other than letting the epoxy set for a day, took all of about an hour per side.
Would you happen to have a tip on why the starter goes "click" now and then, resulting in a nerve-racking "I wonder if this thing is gonna start"? I've had to have her towd 4 times due to the column lock problem! First three fixes were by a dealership that I'll never go to again, and the last fix was by a different dealer that claimed that the first guy didn't do things correctly. The second dealership had to cut the steering wheel off because it was so tight! I'm pretty much affraid to take this car anywhere in fear of what's happened before.
