1st off, I know a lot of us are mod happy, my self included....air intake/exhaust/computer....:D but with some new found money and some great offers in the new year, I got to thinking :)
I didn't buy my car to "track" although I like the occasional trip :reddevil as evidenced by joyus shouts when I pulled 12.80x....anyway
Combine h/c with the "normal" accompanying mods (3.42s and Sy3500 are already here) and some sticky tires and I'm in the 11's and in need of a roll bar....am I getting off track???
Why do heads/cam....I'm not going to be a racer and I won't be able to run at the track....convince me :D
Why are you not driving a Honda if you are not worried about performance?!?! :) :) Because we all love more power!!!
Give me a call when you decide you want the most! ;)
PS If you really need convincing, I will take you for a ride in my car. :) When you get pinned back in the seat, you will be convinced... :yesnod: :yesnod:
Chris....I gotcha on my list....see my other post about "head talk" :D
I know deep down it's all really about expression, why do we do anything to our cars....why do I have flamed fuel rail covers....why is Sully getting a 427 C5R motor.....why.......why.......why :jester
Wow!!! For a guy with over 14,000 posts you figured you be itching lke crazy for some more HP. You should be able to make your own choice from the great feedback we share on the forum.
I'm going to voice what I suspect will be a minority opinion. If heads/cam money were in my budget, I think I would take a portion of it and attend a couple of driving schools, and learn how to extract the most performance out of my stock motored Corvette. I freely admit the cars capabilities are higher than my own in stock form, and I find the car plenty fast as is.
The mod game can be a slippery slope, and once you get the 11 second time slip, what makes you think you will be satisfied with that? Now, I can't argue that more power is always desireable :D, and if you want to go the head/cam or power adder (or both) route because you have the need for speed, go for it. But my approach is to leave my C5 relatively stock, run it at the strip and lapping days at some road courses, and not give a toss about my times, as long as I'm having fun. The tire smoking, eyeball flattening, cruise night beast will eventually be a C3, either my '70, or a different one, depending on how things pan out.
JMO, and I firmly believe the saying "opinions are like azzholes, everybody's got one" - But you did ask...
(Anyway, I'm telling 'ya - spend the money on flames - Silver flames on that DBGM would be so freakin awesome :smash: :smash: :smash: )
Hey Mark - I know how you feel. In fact, I just went out and pulled a plug wire off to make my car slower. I've decided that every week for the next three weeks, I'll pull another plug wire off. Gonna run 87 octane too. Then I'll drive if for a year like that. Then, every month for four months, I re-connect a plug wire. Then I'll feel like I've "modded" my car - think how much faster it's gonna feel!

Go for it!!
I did attend the C5 BDay Bash and the Cruise In ......several trips to the track.....17k miles in 22 months and it's not a daily driver
There's really no way to EXPLAIN the answer. You have to FEEL the answer.
So, here's my suggestion. We're moving to Orlando in about two weeks. Let's find a time we can meet halfway. I'll let you drive my car back to back with yours.
Lets just put it this way dude, there is no other stock configuration (Z06) included that I would rather have. My friends went for a ride with me after I broke in the clutch. Before H&C it was cool, now everybody is charged with ear to ear grins and I am the one put the smile on their faces. What a way to do it, especially when I grab 2nd and spin my 335/30 tires at 70 mph and am having to use a little steering wheel correction to keep the car straight. Oh yeah and I hit 140mph in 4th before I even realized it (the wind noise made me look over at the speedo instead of the tach). I love watching my tach jump from 5500-6700 like my old GSX-R 750 (between 11.5-12.5K rpm).........its instantaneous power.....one ricer lover Acura owner made me pop the hood because he didn't believe that I did not have a turbo on it. These are just my experiences that I have to share with you after only 2-3 weeks of my ARE H&C mod. :D :D :D :D :D :D
You need heads/cam so you can smoke the other awesome cars in Florida. You could also remove all of your mods and drive the car stock(remember how that felt), then put the mods back on and enjoy the additional power you used to take for granted.
Jim
Why not put a rock under the gas pedal. Then in about 6 months take it out
Paul :D :D
Damn Paul, leave it to a service manager to think of that. It occured to me that I wouldn't pass the new smog tests with those plug wires pulled. Guess I'll have to leave it stock.
Shinobi, nice writeup....and Houston crew - is that a local mod only :D

Tom
Tom.....I'll take you up on that deal, make sure to let me know when you get down here :D
I have a similar dilema. My car is a vert (A4) and I refuse to cut the car up to install a roll bar. Therefore I have a builtin limit of how fast the car can run (13 sec bracket). I have been able to run in the mid 13's and with cold weather the low 13's. I would like to have minimal mods to get into the low 13's in the Texas summer but need to stay out of the twelves.
I think H/C would probably provide to much HP for me

Will do.
As for the post about 13's, do the tracks near Orlando enforce the rollbar rule? I finally want to make it to the track and suspect I'll break into the 12's (or the 11's :):):))

Hey Mark, you want the number 1 reason? To prevent you from pulling up next to my lowly SS on Dale Mabry or at BMP and receiving a good old-fashioned butt whooping! :D
Seriously though, there is no feeling like having all the power there under your foot ALL the time.
Good luck with whichever route you decide to take!
