Default GM plug wires

I got new plug wires and plugs from my local GM dealer
part #88892763 wires
part #41-985 plugs
They are dark grey in color.
I only hear you guys talkin about GM red wires.
What's the difference?

(my GM service rep said they were the same)

Any help??

The may be the same with regard to spec, but the dark grey/black wires are made by ACDelco, and the red wires are made by Delphi.

The red wires are the performance models and the grey are the stock replacements.

The dark grey wires are the "stock" wires as delivered from the factory. They work, as Lucky points out, just as well as the red wires.

Most of us prefer the reds for two critical reasons .... with number 1 being the MOST important ....

1) The red wires look way .....

2) The red wires are cheaper than the "stock" wires .... only GM can make two sets of wires (actually there are at least 4 sets from GM that are made for our LS1/LS6 engines .....) that perform the same and have completely different prices ..... the set you got is GM list price $176.27 while the GMPP "red" set (part number 12495519) is list price $65.71 .... go figure.

The plugs they sold you are the correct ones ... they come CORRECTLY pre-gapped at 0.040 inches. Your Owner's Manual says the plug gap should be 0.060 but that is for the older platinum plugs .... the dealer sold you the correct replacement Iridium plugs.

You have the correct parts, they will work just fine, just in future ask questions BEFORE you buy .... the forum would have saved you over $100.00 in your purchase.

i just replaced my spark plugs with the AC Delco 41-985s for about 8 bucks a pop, but the car runs better and doesnt jerk in over drive from 45-55 like it use to, a real bitch to install and change, but the results are well worth the money and time.

Steve,

Do you have a part number for the LS2/7 wires ???

So far I know of three sets of wires from GM that can fit the LS1/LS6 ...

Part # ....................... Description .................. List price

88892763 - Dark Grey wire kit. These wires were shipped on LS1 engines - $176.27
89017270 - Red wire kit from AC Delco ... shipped on later LS6 engines from the factory, also shipped on CTS-V and GTO LS6 engines - $108.53
12495519 - Red wire kit from GM Performance Parts ... never shipped on factory engines ... offered through GMPP catalog - $65.71

* * * * * * * * *

I found a set (part number 89018058) for list price of $131.51 ... is this the LS2/LS7 set ???

Thanks,

Steve

Just run down to Advance auto and grab a set of Autolite wires. 34 bucks a set and work as good as any.
