I have some mild mods to my '99 Coupe (Halltech with Cobra, Ported MAF, Corsa Pace Car exhaust) and am thinking of getting one of the PCM reprogram kits. I believe there are a few (Hypertech, Powerloader, ?) and wanted to get some informed opinions before shelling out the cash.
Genrally, which is regarded as the best of the bunch?
How much of a HP increase can I expect?
Any issues with reliability?
Primarily I'm looking for the HP upgrade, but would like to be able to have my fans come on earlier and remove the CAGS (I have the bypass but would rather re-program, since all that stuff needs to come off before a trip to the dealer anyway)
Re: Best computer chip/reprogrammer on the market? (Corellian Corvette)
Hypertech:
Good=Fast to ship & lots of neat tweaks for your car
Bad=not much performance gains
Powerloader:
Good=Best Bang for the buck and the best "loadable" program on the market by far & Lots of noticable gains and shifting behavior
Bad=Some have waited a couple of life times to get thiers in hand..
Re: Best computer chip/reprogrammer on the market? (Corellian Corvette)
Powerloader does not add any measurable rear wheel horsepower!!! If you seriously want added rear wheel horse power, it is time to consider a heads and cam package , including intake, exhaust, and computer programming by the tuner. Then you will have a complete package, that is very driveable and with 50 to 60 rear wheel horse power. Cost will be close to $8000. with installation of a complete, heads and Cam package, with intake, headers and exhaust and programming. If you already have some of the bolt ons the tuners will deduct that cost from their package. The best performance gains come from doing a package. Whiteboy :chevy
Re: Best computer chip/reprogrammer on the market? (vstella)
I am using a combination of the Hypertech III and a MAFT. I have a new Rev limiter (6400 rpm), cooling fan adjustment (194 deg), custom programming, perfect fuel numbers, 02 numbers, great timing, no knock, almost 0 misfires as a result. Heck I even got that miss fixed here recently that had haunted me since day one! 346 to the rear wheels now & Much more on the way!! :)

POWERLOADER!!! :cool:
As for the claims that it doesn't add HP...I'll have to disagree with you...
12.7@112 on a STOCK motor, STOCK converter, and STOCK EMT's...just intake and exhaust...and, BTW, my Vette is a 4-cat model AND that was my very first time at a dragstrip! :)
The Powerloader is custom made for your mods, so it allows you the maximum gains with your specific mods.
