i just bought 3.42s, ss3600, vararam, trans cooler, predator tuner, msd wires, plugs and a trans go shift kit. i havent installed anything yet but just started to see that people dont install the shift kit. instead they use the programmer.
since i already bought it and dont mind putting it in, will it hurt my transmission if i go ahead and install it anyway?
you'll still need to tune and but the kit won't hurt anything. Biggest thing you might want to do with a trani tune is modify lockup, but you need something like HPtuners to do that.
Definitely won't 'hurt' it. Think of it as an aid moreso that a mod. I run 3.42's Yank SY3500 and TransGo, I also had my car dyno-tuned shortly thereafter.
I tune vehicles with Hp Tuners. On the A4 cars, I can raise the shift pressure and remove the upshift torque reduction to allow the tires to chip on the WOT 1-2 shifts. I also set up the TCC duty cycle tables to eliminate the TCC slip, and also raise the lock-up points.
If you install a Trans Go shift kit, you still have to tune out the upshift torque reduction and set up the shift points & lock up speeds.
