Door Rattle Fix
I'm posting this for anyone that may have an annoying door rattle that is really hard to find. I have had a recurring rattle/squeak for the longest time and have adjusted, taped, disassembled/reassembled just about everything in the driver's door to no avail. This morning, I became determined to fix the darn thing so I took everthing out of the door one piece at a time.... I mean everything including the window, window regulator, speakers, etc. In between taking out each piece, I drove the car around the block with the interior trim removed. The last thing I removed was the door latch assembly. I even adjusted the striker plate. I drove it with the latch assembly off and held the door shut tight with my hand and low and behold, no rattle.
Turns out the door latch assembly, even though it was mounted tightly, was moving slighlty when the car flexed even a tiny bit over bumps. I reinstalled the door latch assembly (attached with three screws at back of door) but placed some rubber washers in between the door and the assembly. Finally, problem solved. Hope this helps some one else.
