It's hard to avoid, you've been pumping it in for years, you just didn't know it until now.
There are a couple of stations in Edmond that advertise Ethonal free, but I have not filled up at those stations, I have a station at the entrance to my neighborhood that says "may contain up to 10%". I wouldn't know when they would or when they wouldn't. I would rather they didn't. I have not noticed any adverse effects, I need to take a long trip to check my mileage.
I see 2 mp difference between pure gasoline and 10% ethanol.
I had to get a tune to prevent my car from throwing a CEL due to running lean with 10% ethanol on my Vararam/AR Headers modded Vert.
On hot days pre-tune at WOT I had engine knock, which obviously resulted in retarded timing and lost performance....
There was a news report a while back that (at least in Tulsa) the gas stations were all pumping 10% alcohol they just didn't claim it. Now the pumps have to be labelled - the fuel is the same they are just telling you about it.
From everything that I read, corn based ethinol takes more energy to produce than it gives up in the combustion chamber. The side benefit to cleaner emissions is higher food prices. We have yet to see the price rise in beef that is coming later this year. However I understand that the folks over at OSU are working on a switchgrass alternative to corn as the basis for the ethinol produced now. Switchgrass being something of a weed I suppose it could be a net benefit. The fact remains that, until regulations forced the labeling at the pump, who knew we were being given a less efficient fuel. Oh and Robert, I get out plenty. Just turned over 90,000.
