Default LG Headers?

I realize this is a noobish and opinion-fueled question, but I want to get a set of longtube headers for my 2000 vert.

I plan on installing a comp cam, halltech stinger (or varaam..not sure yet), FAST intake, 90mm tb, and a good tune. However, I'm stumped when it comes to picking the headers/package.

LG seems to make some good ones, and for "cheap":

http://www.aacorvette.com/index.php?...roducts_id=141

If there's something better for the money, let me know! I just got back from Afghanistan and can't wait to fix up my stock 2000 vert.

Thanks!

You want the good news.....or the bad?

LG Pro's are a great header system.
Also on the short list for top notch headers are American Racing, Kooks, and Dynatech. Those are the 4 most common brands of systems, and you can't go wrong with either.

Performance wise, for drag racing, the AR and Kooks are a better choice. For road racing, the LG or Dynatech's might be better. Let's not get into this ones better than that one bs........it's been done so many times before and there are plenty of posts about it.

The link you posted to is the LG streets. Not quite as good as the Pro's, but certainly a budget option. Don't get swayed by the $695 price, by the time you add a catted midpipe, you're closer to 1k. The clamps suck on the streets, so you'll have to upgrade them.

Bad news is that you're going to spend pretty much over 1k, plus factor any installation and tuning, unless you do it yourself. For example, most shops charge $2000+ out the door pricing.

There are cheaper options. The fleabay OBX and SSAutochome come to mind. But results are mixed, and resale is non-existant. Biggest issue is fit and fitment problems.

I have the LG Streets. I didn't want to spend 2k for headers. I think they provide the best bang for the buck plus excellent support from LG. I love the sound with the stock Ti cat back on the Z06. You will probably get 5-10hp less than the LG Pros but you will pay $600-$800 less. If you don't want CATS figure $995 for the LG Streets, sometimes they run specials for $895 or give free shipping. Give them a call.

Awesome..thanks for the replies. I plan on installing them myself, so I can save money there. I'll probably save up for the pros, who knows.. Anyone else?

I went with the Kooks 1 7/8" coll with the 3/8" mounting flanges. Good stuff but you will pay $$. Had them bolted up 3 years now on my 01 C5. No leaks what so ever at the flanges or collectors. X pipe and high flow cats mounted as well. Personally, I would buy Kooks again if I needed to.

I had the LG streets installed on my '04 vert and couldn't be happier. Couldn't justify the xtra $$ for the 5-10 hp. Don't know if you already purchased an exhaust system or plan to, but keeping my budget in mind....I just purchased a set of Next Step Performance exhausts. The price was right $559. shipped. They are real similar to the Granatelli's. I've heard nothing but good things about them from the other folks on the forum who installed them except that the clamps suck. I won't go into the sound etc. etc. etc. since it's already been discussed....But here's a link if you want to check them out... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...hlight=exhaust

We do offer both a Street Series and a Pro Series header.

The Street's are more designed for a stock or mildly modified car, where as the Pro's are designed for more aggressive builds.

Each system comes with:
  • Driver and Passenger header
  • Off-Road Pipes (cats also if ordered)
  • X pipe
  • Muffler connection pipes
  • All clamps and needed hardware
  • 02 extension wires
  • All four 02 bungs already welded in
  • Install instructions
  • Jet-Hot coating, LG Gaskets, and Stage 8 header bolts optional

What makes our Pro's different from our Street Series?
  • Street Series use a 4 into 1 collector vs. the merge collector on the Pro's
  • The Pro Series uses a larger 3" diameter mid section vs. 2.5" for the S.S.
  • Pro's have a Siamese 3" X pipe vs. 2.5" X on the S.S.
  • Street Series come with a high polish finish standard

What other things should I think about getting when installing?
  • LG H.D. exhaust gaskets
  • New spark plugs
  • New plug wires
  • Stage 8 header bolts
  • HeatMaster tunnel heat shield
  • Cat back muffler system

Give me a ring here at the shop and we'll get a good price for you!

How far do you plan on taking the car? On a bolt on/mild cam car the LG Streets are perfect. Once you start getting into the bigger cams and heads the Pros will really start to outshine the Streets. Im running the LG Streets and im very happy with them. The previous owner had them installed over 2 years ago and they are holding up perfect! Excellent quality and even better customer service .

With the X3, personally, I would go with the Pro's but it can be done with the Street Series.

Figure you would be down about 5-10hp over what a Pro equipped car would be making at that point.

Look around in the For Sale section too. The top 4 were already mentioned, and if you get lucky, you can get a good set of used Lt's for a good price. I got a set of Dynatech's with the x-pipe for 900 bucks. It was certainly a deal I couldn't pass up and they were in perfect condition. All you need is someone stepping up to bigger headers for their mods and their "old" Lt's become your "new" exhaust. just my .02

I am another satisfied customer of the "streets" system. For the amount of mods I've done and intend to do, the streets were more than adequate for my needs and saved me some money. They fit great and sound even better. After getting the car tuned (by Doug at ECS), the seat of my pants is really feeling the difference. My only complaints were the clamps, which at Carlisle I was told they will be improving on future orders. If you like them, no need to hesitate. LG is one of the most popular brands for a reason.

I installed my 3rd set of Street Series on a customers car. Clamps were hell of a lot better then when they 1st came out.

Overall, $$$ well spent. i also have a set on mine.

Anyway on the set I installed recently, it was the Street Series, no cats, cam and LS6 intake and 25% underdrive crank pulley.

On a 98 w/ 129xxx miles, made 379RWHP

My '02 Couple (MN6) has had LG Pro's w/cats installed for ~2.5 years / 10k miles with ZERO issues! The Street Series didn't exist back then, but I don't think I'd have done anything different given my original plans for the car. I love the sound, especially when mated with the Borla Quad Stinger exhaust! With the LG Pro setup, Stingers, Vararam, and a tune, my car put down ~350rwhp/360rwtq.

While the gains over stock were very noticable, if I could rewind time and my wallet, I'd have just slapped an ECS or A&A blower kit on the car and been done with it.

Overall, I'm very happy with my LG Pro setup.
