Does anyone know what the cheapest headers are for the Z06? How much better could one set of headers be than another or is it mostly the way they sound?

Quality of fit, finish, ground clearance, provisions for 02's, and customer service all effect the price. You can pick up a cheap set, if you are willing to gamble....roll the dice........some win.....some lose.

Some people have great success with cheap header's, but your better off saving for better quality
I've installed 3 sets of LG streets, $1000 w/ NO CATS, $300 for Cats.
I've also installed 6 sets of Supermaxx by Dynotech.
The fit of all of them where fine. You pay a little more for the Supermaxx, but in return you get everything you need for the job. LG's kit, you have to use a few things over or go buy them seperate.
The sealing and clamps are better on the Supermaxx. the LGs are better then what they were when the 1st came out
But I just installed a LG set last week and had no problems w/ clamps or leaks.
If a 1000 is ok to spend, go for the LG streets. If 500 more is not an issue, then go w/ the Supermaxx.
I cant say anything about the others cause I have not installed them
maybe some day I will.
Like mentioned above you get what you pay for. IMO its best to dish out a little more and go with a good quality header. The previous owner of my car installed the LG streets over 2 years ago and they still look brand new today. Basically any vendor on this board will give you a good quality product. The most popular ones are American Racing, Kooks, LG Motorsports, and TSP.
You do get what you pay for, ground clearence is not the only thing to think about, plug access veries significantly amoungst the header brands out there.
You can also watch out in the Parts for Sale section for a set of used headers in any of the desired flavors you may want. That is one way to get the same design for a little less.
Don't forget the cheap OBX e b a y headers actually get great reviews. The only people who dislike them are those who have no experience and are just mad that they paid too much for nothing. It's fine if they'd admit to not knowing, but usually they actually talk bad about the product for no reason other than they like to lie.
let me give you a REAL opinion, and not some vendor or "vette" guy who thinks the only thing that is good is teh most expensive.
I have a set of used TPIS long tubes. I got the headers and X pipe for 600 bucks.
they have perfect ground clearance....02 bungs are at a perfect location, and they fit 100% perfect. Do youself a favor and look for a used set....its pipe for christ sake. dont spend 2k on what you can have for a fraction of the cost......my 2 cents
Thanks for the help! I've deceided to go with TSP Longtubes but the best price I can find is on their website for $499. Anybody know where I can get a better deal? By the I don't need an x-pipe.
Lingenfelter recommended Kooks headers, and X-pipe with high flow cats - so I went with them. Fit and finish are perfect and the 02 sensor locations are correct. The car is lowered and there are no clearance issue.

You're better off buying a quality set of used LT's then paying the same price for some new LT's that are crap.

Have you done any searches on the TSP longtubes? I would do some reading first.

I would also suggest re-thinking the x-pipe, it may be more expesive to try and make the stock h-pipe fit, but I'm no expert. Definately talk it over with the vendor before purchasing a LT. It could also be more expensive to buy just the x-pipe latter. Lastly, x-pipes are not generally interchangeable.
