Was going to change out the brake fluid on my 98 auto this weekend. Thought I had read here that the ABS pumps need flushed too and a power flush is needed. Should I let the dealer do this or is a simple fluid exchange at home going to work just as well. Hate to pay to have something done that I can do, but want a thorough flush done. Thanks.
I just changed and bleed my 02 brake fluid in my driveway on Wed. It is a supper easy job if you have speed bleeders. I would save your cash and do it yourself.
Suck everything out of the master cylinder with a turkey baster. Fill to the top with fresh fluid. Bleed brakes. Top off MC. You won't get it all, but for all practical purposes it's going to be good enough.
You can drive car and turn sharp while braking. That will cycle ABS and purge. Bleed again if you think it's necessary.
Valvoline Synthetic brake fluid or Catrol LMA fluids are good for DD Corvettes. Faily decent for track work too, as long as you bleed often.
The turkey baster method above works well...
Do it two or three times a summer and you are fine...
I use a syringe designed for dosing 2 stroke oil... it doesn't drip and you don't want to get brakefluid on your paint.
All the above is excellent info! Replace all the old fluid in the master, flush it through all the slaves and you have changed 90% of the fluid in the system. If you drive your car aggressively, the ABS, TC will be used frequently and the fluid in the system will be continuously exchanged.
If you change your fluid at least TWICE a year, your good to go!
