Yes he does. He has had it in the car for a number of years now, both street and track miles.

Great cam, a little milder than the X3, with a little more low to mid range torque than the X3.

I believe the G5X3 still wins the popularity contest overall. Figure the X2 to start making power a little sooner, but down about 10hp over the X3.

Yeah they're so similar it's not noticeable really:

G5X3: 234/242 on XE-R lobes
G5X2: 232/240 on XE-R lobes

I'm a huge fan of LG cams, but remember the Futral camp also. Very good power and track times come from their cams on a consistent basis just like LG.

Just found this thread.... yep... I've got a G5-X2 on a 114 lobe. Car made 436 rwhp and 397 rwtq with Kooks headers/cats/x-pipe and Borla Stingers. Car has Yella Terra ultralights and a Fidanza flywheel with may account for the extra 10 or so rwhp than what I expected. Car backed up the number on multiple dynos.

I installed the cam in January '07 and have put about 11k on the car since then (69,xxx at time of install and almost 81k now). Car was down from Nov '07 through July '08 for the targa top conversion and re-paint.

I wanted something with good lope and power, but still enough manners that I could DD the car if I wanted to. I've been in cars with crazy cams before and they get old IMO.

Good luck w/ your choice.

Since it has a 114 lobe, with a good tuner can it be setup to pass a cali smog sniffer? How would a G5X2 fare when coupled with an a A&A Vortech or other centri? (not trying to hijack)

^ I doubt it... cam has lots of duration. Even with cats my car still has more exhaust stink than when stock.

Fail sniffer, but great choice for centri or PD blowers

does the G5X2 have any advance ground in? I'm interested in that cam but would think a 112+4 would help with the low end torque?

I'd assume if you actually purchase the cam it would come with a cam card? The G5X1 and G5X2 specs are on LG's site, it just doesn't say if it's got any advance ground in.

If you want the cam card be clear and call them to be sure. Don't think they give you that on all or any cams.

Read the cam guide sticky at LS1Tech.

It discusses the G5X2 specifically, and although the link to the X2 cam card is dead, the pertinent info is still posted.

It does have 4 degrees ground in.
232/240 .595/.609 112+4 or 114+4

That is actually close to the custom cam I just bought -
232/236 .595/.579 113+3
The 232 is XER lobe and the 236 was ground on a Ford lobe I think per TEA's recommendation since more was not needed there.
And....I got the cam card!

If you're degreeing it, the need for a cam card is non-existent. The degree wheel and dial indicator will tell you everything printed on the card, and then some (that's kinda the whole purpose of degreeing it).

If you wish to shift the valve events in one direction or another during installation, get an adjustable timing set, and set ICL appropriately.
Since you have the card, degreeing it will only confirm (or not), the info on the card as being accurate. You may already know if you want to advance or retard it during installation.

However, the other important thing degreeing can do for you, is show the effect on p/v clearance if you do choose to shift the ICL one way or the other.
