Default Problem with HUD

The hud display drives down to the bottom-out of view- when the car is turned off. About 5% of the time it will come up when the button is rocked up I just replaced the switch and no help. Is this a common problem? Any suggestions.

Reprogrammed mem no help. Owners manual does not mention HUD as part of mem pkg. I think I have a bad display unit. Anyone know where I can get an exchanged display? Or know why I can not adjust mine. I have not been able to move it for a couple of days now.

how about disconnecting the battery for 20 min. and then reconnecting? it could be a bad hard part but lets make sure it isn't getting a bogus signal. there may be a fuse(i'll see if i can find the correct one) you can pull too to try the easy stuff first. do you have any codes on the dic? sorry, never had the problem so just trying to pass some things on that i might do myself. maybe someone on here will pick up and get you on a better path

I had the same problem for a little while. Now it won't move at all it is stuck at as low as it will go. The cause of my problem is in the display unit. There is a mirrow in the unit held on by two plastic clips that piviot to adjust the display. They get weak with vibration temp changes and sun light just like most plastics do and give way. Atleast thats what I think happened to mine. The bad thing is you have to get the whole projector unit from GM I think they are around $350.00

Thanks for the help everyone, disconnected battery for 40 min no help. What are the components of this system. I have replaced the switch no help. Just the projector and the gage cluster?

I think the only other possibility is the projector itself. The cluster only transmits data to the projector.

service manual says to check harness and connections for poor fit, short etc. also: with hud switch connected, at the hud switch connector jumper terminal 9 (gray) to ground. if it moves up and down, jumper terminal 8 to ground. if either not ok check harness for short(since you already changed switch). if ok, check harness to ipc (instrument panel cluster - i think). if no problems found, manual says to replace hud unit. it seems that the components are the switch, harness to hud and to ipc and the ipc. hopefully, it will be a loose connector borrow a service manual v3 if you can so this will make more sense. maybe someone with copy can post pg 8-671 and 8-672. i don't know how

I had the same problem where my display kept getting lower and lower to the point it wouldn't even show up anymore. It was the plastic pins that hold the reflective mirror that broke. I ended up opening the HUD unit and epoxying a new pin to hold the mirror.

Hey, I've gotten it up and it has been staying up and I didn't even need viagra. I think I have a wire problem, if pins where broken it would not work properly on occasion. If it fails in the future and I dig into it I will post what I have found. Thanks again everyone for the help.
