Default Are these Kooks headers?

So I got some LT's on fleabay for cheap (less than $300) due to the holes in the collectors as you can see in the pics where somebody f-ed it up with a welder. I plan to get these fixed as I know guys that do stainless welding and then I'll have to figure something out for an x-pipe. I know the collectors look like Kooks style and the seller claims they're Kooks off of a C5 corvette. So now I found a pic of someone else's Kooks install that shows a completely different primary design. Did Kooks redesign these over the years or did I just get ripped?!

The headers in the pic with the Vette are Kooks. The following 2 pics ofthe headers with the holes are NOT Kooks, they look to be TPIS headers.

More importantly, where are the flanges? Did they cut them off?

I don't think so, TPIS are weld/clamp on, the headers depicted have a flare as opposed to a straight pipe edge.

The TPIS headers require this type of clamp.....

Just checked their webpage, the TPIS collectors are a floating fit , no clamps required.

I guess I'll see when they get here...hopefully they're not some cheap knock-offs that are going to fall apart. I should've done more research before buying them but then again they were pretty cheap so I don't feel as bad.

I thought the answer was BS too but figured it didn't really matter how the holes got there as long as I can repair them. FLP's will do...at least I didn't get ripped

Well done Sinister-One, that explains the v-band clamps.

Nope, you got a pretty good deal. An FLP header setup runs about $1600 bucks ! Once you get them fixed, you could have an exhaust shop use a pipe cutting tool to cut the flanges off to make them slip on collectors like all the others.

Thanks lucky, I knew I'd seen that style of headers before. I just couldn't remember where.

I was watching those but didn't think they were kooks.

Dunno who FLP is but they look just like copies of the TPIS headers, same as my RKSPORT headers are copies of the TPIS design.

Yes indeed...I figure I'll have maybe $400 in them once they're repaired so I'm happy. I was thinking I'd have an exhaust place cut out my cats and weld in straight pipes and then fab up flanges to retain the V-clamp setup. I currently have an ARK X-pipe which replaced my stock H so from just behind the cats and back it's all good...just need something to go from the ARK X up to these collectors.

Yes, those are FLPs.

Dynatech produced these for FLP before they (Dynatech) started marketing their own "Supermaxx" system. At the time, this was an expensive, but popular "complete system" back in the day before LG, Kook's and AR systems were invented.

What I see there is the useless mounting tabs that bolted up to the bellhousing broke out of the tubes, this was a fairly common issue these headers had. (mine broke off on the driver's side header, I welded the hole up, and then cut the pass side tab off as prevention).

Also, they are ceramic-coated mild steel, not stainless. Not that welding them makes any difference, stainless welds as easily as mild steel...but FYI.

Far from it if you look closely. The TPIS uses a floating fit design connecting to their weld on h-pipe. The FLP uses v-band clamps as opposed to float or flange mount. The primaries are also different between the two.

Here's his FLP's compared to my RKSPORT, aside from the obvious difference in the flanges, everything else looks the same, am I missing something?
