I don't like the grey color of the fast intake manifold. My car is an 03 z06 black with the stock red frc's, should i paint it gloss black or flat black? or any other colors you might reccommend? Does anyone have any pics of painted one's? Thanks mike
Yes, use the typical High Heat Duplicolor found in auto parts stores.. (black and clear) You're going to have to spend a lot of time sanding the polymer to get it smooth (the longest time spent of the job) prep it well and use very thin coats giving ample time to dry.
Let it cure fully, if you become impatient and try to install the intake without the paint fully hardened you'll risk marring the surface easier during the install.
OK Thanks. I found rustoleum makes a high temp paint up to 1200 degrees in all types of colors i might try that. Iam also going to use an adhesion promoter to make the paint stick hopefully. does anyone have any pics of there they did? Thanks mike
This flat black one with the logo detailed in red looks pretty good.... much less labor involved than getting a glass smooth wet finish. Your choice. I think both outcomes look much better than the regular gray.
looks good i would love to see a gloss black one thoough. Would any red paint do the trick on the fast logo or is there special paint that should be used? Thanks mike
I will be installing a FAST 92 soon, and want to make sure it looks sweet. I have seen a thread where someone actually had their's powder coated. Has anyone else ever done that?

Since you have to ask everyone what color you should paint YOUR intake, then I recommend hot pink.
Damn, that silver paint turned out pretty nice... how's it holding up after some time/heat has taken it's toll?
Actually, this pic is before the clear coat that I applied. Unfortunately, I discovered applying clear over the DUP chrome paint turns to a dull burnished look. Since it didn't state not to clear coat their chrome paint, I complained on their website help desk........so they sent me a free case of the paint of my choice!! They went out of there way to make sure I was happy, and answered all my questions. So...I media blasted it back to the plastic base and am now in the process of redoing the whole thing, but will lay some bright hi-temp red and hi-temp clear on it, since my vette is torch red. I loved the "chrome" look though. The FRC's are painted DUP satin black with their satin clear after I power sanded them smooth. I didn't want them to look too bright and shiney. The chrome vinyl letters get lots of compliments on the flat/satin black smooth frc's. After 6 months, no heat problems on the frc's. They cool down quite rapidly after a hard drive. I always open my hood in my garage to let out the heat.
Personally, I like stealthy OEM looks.....(not glossy to try and draw attention), but of course all of this is personal preference (some people are just the opposite and the more "bling" the better).
This is the paint scheme I have done for a few members that of course I also helped with the porting, not to mention will be exactly what I will go with on my next personal project which will hopefully be up and running by the spring of 09'....late this winter if things go better than expected.
It doesn't jump out at you....its matte finish just compliments everything else going on.
(This is a pic of a customers intake I finished recently)
