My 2000 C5 has a positive battery drain that kills the battery in about 2 days. When I disconnedct the negative battery post I get a significant spark and hear a clicking sound in both headlight assemblies. I removed the fuses for the headlamp door motors and the sound went away as did the sparks when i reconnected the battery. I have not used a volt meter yet to determine the battery drain but will do that later today or tomorrow. Both headlights, and all other electronics, work correctly.
Mine sparks and has always clicked at the headlights when connecting the batter and I have never had a battery drained down. Even after not driving the car for over a month.
I finally had a few minutes to hook up the multimeter. I get a constant reading of .131 on the 10A scale. I left it connected for about 30 minutes with no change. I pilled all the mini fuses under the hood and under the dash with no change in the readings. I did not pull the maxi fuses.
I went back and pulled all the maxi fuses (one at a time) and pulled circuit breaker 35 (Dvr Pwr Seat) , 36 (Pass Pwr Seat), and 54 (headlights). No change in the reading - still .13 after the car has been sitting for over an hour.
Read through it and pay some attention to post #19 by Bill Curlee the forum resident electric and electronic master. He mentions a way to test and see if the Alternator has a bad diode and may be the cause of the drain.
If that doesn't pan out I suggest that you PM Bill and ask for his help. He's an extremely knowledgeable guy and I've heard that he has instructed folk over the phone to diagnose their problems.
Also fill out more fo your profile to tell us at least what state you are in and some info about your car like year, A4 or M6 and maybe number of miles on the car etc. Makes it a lot easier to help you out when we have some info to work with.....
That is the same link that I posted earlier in this thread! Hoped it would have been read and used for troubleshooting!
