Default Z06 windshield

Got a nice big rock into windshield in 04 coupe. Thinking about using the lighter Z06 windshield. Is this a fit and what about antenna built into coupe windshield. Lose signal on radio?

The Z06 windshield would not come with an embedded antenna, so you'd have to work around that with an electric antenna or fixed mast antenna.
The Z06 windshield is thinner, so you'd see a slight decrease in weight.
However, when you learn the cost of the Z06 windshield vs the coupe windshield, you'll need a second mortgage or nitro pills for the sticker shock...

If you have comprehensive insurace the cost may not be an issue. The problems are first actually getting the Z windshield instead of something else and the second (and harder to do) would be re-inventing the radio antenna interface. Here is how the coupe antenna system works:

The Corvette Coupe features a diversity antenna system designed to deliver the best radio signal reception possible.

Two antennas are used to form a diversity system. The primary antenna is attached to the rear lift window similar to a defogger grid. This antenna is used to receive both AM and FM signals. The secondary antenna is attached to the windshield in the same manner as the primary antenna. This antenna is used to receive only FM (diversity) signals. The antenna reception signals are sorted by a reception processing module. The module then sends the clearest, strongest signal to the radio control. The module is located behind the driver's seat.

You can install a rear antenna like the convertible but would have to bypass the antenna module and go directly to the radio with the coax. It has been a while since I have been in a coupe Vs my Z but I believe my coupe actually had better reception in the fringe areas than my fixed mast Z which I find surprising. Usually a fixed mast antenna with a proper ground plane will outperform a windshield mounted system. That is why GM dropped their first generation windshield antenna system in the early 70s.

Thanks guys! I didn't know the Z06 windshield was that much more expensive. Sounds like a total pain for the small weight reduction. Thanks for the info!
