Hey, what's involved in switching from a 78mm MAF to an 85mm MAF.
I know I need the wiring harness, but other than that is this just a bolt on Mod ?? Does it fit my stock 99 air bridge and Vararam or will I need bigger hose couplers ??
Is there going to be a problem with the fuel air mix or does the 85mm Maf just know how to deal with it ...
I'm pretty sure you need a new bridge, it just won't cover it and stay. Also, you have the old IAT sensor hole that would need to be plugged anyway.
You may also need a bigger coupler from the air box to the MAF. It may work OK, but not sure if it will last.
Lastly, you definately need a new tune. The MAF table is significantly different and will through off your air to fule mixture, it will run badly. There is a howto article on the swap: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=25
It says there are 85mm MAFs that are calibrated for the older cars, but not sure how well that works.
BTW its not really going to buy you anything, I'd only do it if you need to do it.
if that's the only mod you're planning I really don't think you'll see any significant gains, at least enough to justifyy the other problems the switch will create.Howevewr, if you want to do it you'll need all the parts mentioned above and a really good tune.
