I've read many posts covering this topic and just wondering if its normally due to the fuel. The pinging only happens with my foot planted to the floor board. All other times it does not ping. Even when I accelerate in 6th when I should down shift, it does not ping. Also it does not ping under load up hills etc. Thanks in advance.
You could have carbon buildup in the cylinders causing an early ignition. The seafoam treatment will help clean out the cylinders. A lean condition will cause detonation also. A clogged fuel filter will cause loss of fuel when the demand is greater. WOT is the greatest demand for fuel you'll ever have. Most high HP guys (including me)will run a wideband which would reveal fueling issues at WOT.
So filter and Seafoam. I keep on reading pros and cons with seafoam...any advise? Also, it has 60K on it and freshly inspected by a local Vette dealership. Thanks.
Putting Seafoam into the gas tank will NOT de-carbon your engine. AFTER doing the PROPER Seafoam treatment using it regularly will keep the fuel system clean and reduce future carbon buildup.
Suck Seafoam in through the intake while engine is running, then stalling engine WHILE Seafoam is being sucked in. Let it sit overnight – a full12 hours. This will allow the Seafoam to soak thoroughly into the built-up carbon. Upon starting in the morning much smoke will emitted out the exhaust. This is the carbon being expelled.
Use high-octane gasoline – 91 (or 93 if available in your area). Use a quality gasoline. Quality gasoline has sufficient additives to keep your fuel system clean.
My car used to ping at WOT. After changing out the fuel injectors the pinging stopped.
The fouled injectors were causing a lean condition which in turn caused the pinging.
There are various reasons that your engine could "ping" at WOT I'm simply sharing my particular experience.
I hope you find an inexpensive cure. Be sure to share your findings with us.
Consider a catch can to trap oil before it coats the inside of your intake manifold and enters the combustion chamber. I would do that & seafoam. If the problem still persists, consider getting it tuned.
I had the same problem and all it was is the gas. I always use 92 octane but some are better than others. The best luck I have had is by using Conoco. Try a tank and see if it helps
I had the same problem. Put a can of Seafoam PLUS a 12-gallon bottle of Techron in the tank, then filled with Texaco. Took about a tankfull overall to eliminate the problem. First half tank, no change. Then I said to myself "Self, what about sloshing the stuff in the tank(s)?" Did that and within a half tank, problem was gone. WOT no longer produces pinging. HTH
Thanks all.
I tried a few tanks of Chevon along with a few times with Techron and poof....all is well. I will do Seafoam before my next oil change just to make sure.
