Help! Got in this morning turned the key and all I got was the Odometer flashing mileage, I could hear clicking in the passenger foot well, and if I continued to turn the key to try and start, it would "bump" trying to engage the starter. Turned the key back removed the key and tried again and it started -- got the dreaded message remove key and wait 10 seconds. I shut it off and waited 10 seconds and tried again and everything was normal. I got to work turned it off and tried to start it up and all I got was the Odometer flashing mileage just like before. Anybody have any ideas? I just replaced the battery, so I know the battery is good. Help!
Well, I cleaned up the terminals and put a washer in between the battery and the bolt in case it was too long. Have electrial lights dash lights etc all work. Turn the key -- nothing. I hooked up the preditor to check the DTC's. No DTC's. While reading the DTC's not Ran -- after about 5 minutes, the gauges did their sweep, acted like it wanted to start. Turned off and tried to start -- nothing. I guess I will look into the Ignition next. BTW tried second key -- same result.
Is the security light flashing in the IP Cluster? If so, your key pellet isn't be read. If not flashing, then yes, it could be a bad ignition switch. I suggest a PM to Bill Curlee.
Thanks,
The security light goes out after the initial key turn and only flashes when I am trying to engage the starter. I have tried both sets of keys with the same result. According to several threads from Bill it seems my TDR is faulty. I will replace that this evening and post an update. If that doesn't work, I will PM Bill directly. Thanks again for the response.........Dave
Well, it wasn't the TDR. I swapped it out $42 and same thing. Basically nothing. I sent a PM to Bill, hopefully he can help. Thanks for all the help..........Dave
Swap batteries with another car... just to try it...
Out of nowhere my battery failed and it did similar things. It clicked from the driver's foot well, the gauges swept on the initial key turn.... some other weird stuff but it failed to start the car...
I tried everything and in the end I just swapped batteries and.... VROOOM!!

Hi, the perfect example why you can't take things for granted. Any electrical problem begs checking the battery and it's connections first even if you just replaced it. Also especially if you just replaced it the cables may not be as tight as they should be. Second the charging system should be checked and then check for a higher than normal drain on the system.
Glad you got it going.
Good Luck
Well once again the dreaded ignition switch corrosion caused another Corvette not to start. Thanks to Bill Curlee for the excellent writeup and suggestions on a returned PM, I am up and running again. I can't say enough about all the help you can get here just from asking.
Thanks to all for the suggesions......................Dave
