H/C valve train issues
As noted in a previous thread regarding damaged cracked CRL's right out of the box. In my panic I now have 3ea boxes of these lifters, 2 of the three boxes have cracked lifters as noted previously....this is not very good.
On to preload & self induced grief. Order the Comp Cam kit length checker, comes with every one except the one we need, order the one we need. Searched and followed the 2ea procedures, one using the checker, the other counting rocker bolt turns. In the end both procedures completed carefully provide the same results, both cases I used a dial gauge. However what you do to cause yourself pain & suffering is lube each end of the push rod as well as the valve tip, slightly turn the motor into a different position....then double check your previous work. Lay in bed awake until 2:30 attempting to understand what you did wrong in the first procedure....2:30am back to the garage, retrace your steps, kick yourself in the head & go back to bed.
