Default Tranny trouble!!

I just got word from my repair shop that my transmission is gonna cost 2,500.00 to repair since the third drum is shot! :cry :cry And if that was not enough, my right rear runcrap goes flat at the shop! :( At least I had the new Nittos here ready to go and had the runcraps replaced today. Now I get to wait a week for the tranny to be rebuilt! When things go wrong, they REALLY go wrong. Pray for me and my C5..we NEED it!!!

Sorry to hear about your tranny. That sucks. But you can turn that negative to a positive by geting a hold of Yank or FLP and putting in a "Reinforced" tranny for not that much more. :yesnod: Good luck. I hope you get her on the road soon. Eric :smash:

:yesnod: I would look at a YANK tranny. I think they run $3500 or so...

This brings up a question I would like to ask. I have a new C5 A4 and will be modifying it over the next few years (bolt-ons first and then stall, cam and heads). I am well aware of tranny problems related to higher than stock HP mods and the resulting fixes that one must go through. Believe me, I have gone through a number of AOD's and a few C4's over on Ford's I have had, but am not familiar with GM tranny's. Some questions (remember, my C5 is 3 days old to me!):

1. Does the C5 have a radiator type tranny cooler or the inefficient type that just runs the fluid through a tube in the coolant radiator?
2. Do the typical shift kit mods help and are recommended?
3. I have noticed many going to various torque converter upgrades (which I know are probably needed for ultimate A4 performance). Along with the converter upgrade, are there any other mods that need to be made (computer mods, etc.)?

Thanks!

1. I believe it is cooled by running through the radiator, as a seperate tranny cooler was recommended for me.
2. I have a Transgo shift kit which works fantastically. Will it wear out the tranny faster? Probably!
3. I had new gears installed at the same time as the TC and computer programming was necessary.

I'm no expert. I hope this helps. There are a lot of "REAL" experts on this Forum. Maybe they will chime in and answer more correctly.
