Default Differential - Is it hurt?

I recently bought an automatic '04 CE with 3000 miles. I noticed it had a small diff leak that had blown on the rear suspension. The leak was in the front of the diff between it and the trans and took the dealer two tries to fix it. I had driven the car about 1500 miles locally, and thought I'd better check the fluid level before taking a 800 road trip. The diff was half full - had to add a quart of lube. After the trip, I drained and refilled the diff, and didn't notice any metal in the old fluid. So far, the rear has been quiet and no chatter on turns. I would have pulled the diff cover, but none of the local dealers had a gasket (o-ring).

I wonder what the chances of future problems are.

Hi, inmo from years of working on and restoring cars I would say that you probably have nothing to worry about. You still had some lube in there sloshing around and you weren't driving the car very hard. The thing to watch for on these cars is the dreaded rear leak on the drivers side of the diff.
Good luck and enjoy the car.

In my opinion you will be fine. I know this may seem like a dumb question, but when you checked the level of the oil was the car level? If you jacked the back and checked it could look low when it really isn't. My main reason for asking is to be sure you haven't over filled it.
