I have recently installed 342 gears and a vig. 2600 stall. sometimes the car shift where it needs to and sometimes it go beyond and hits the rev limiter. My tuner uses the hp tuner, any suggestions on where to set my rev limiter, shift points, mph, etc...
FWIW, I used an HP Tuner to update my new 3:42 gear ratio. As soon as I entered the new gear ratio, the HPTuner S/W automatically changed the shift points. A friend of mine and I just made them slighty more aggressive and also shortened the shift times too.
The ECM needs to hit 2 parameters in order to command a shift at WOT-- 1st it must hit the "shift at vehicle speed " ( VSS) and then the "shift at RPM" Typically on a corvette if you have about a 1000 RPM split between the 2 it will shift correctly---BUT when installing a stall converter you must LOWER the shift at vehilcle speed even further.
For example if the 1-2 shift is missing the shift point and hitting the rev limiter-- and the VSS is set at 50 MPH--lower it to 40--- In EFILIVE the 1-2 VSS is table D0910---If you set the rev limiter higher like to 8000--then it would bang it at 8000 beacuse you havent corrected the problem--I would NOT do this----the rev limiter is just a safety rev limit--the Shift at RPM is the shift point at WOT

And on some cars the downshift speed does not correct itself right.Very common on 97/98's.
i have the same problem with my 6 speed.. Can I get a tune for the 6 speed trans also?
if you are hitting the rev limiter with a 6-speed you need to shift earlier. Many times the tach lags behind the actual rpms so looking at the tach may not be the solution (unless you shift at a place earlier than you think you should).
Personally I would buy and install a raptor shift light. You set it to where you are ensured you are not going to hit the rev limiter.
