Default Header question...

Would I have an issue putting 2000 and up headers on a 98? The car is an auto. What codes if any would need to be turned off?

Thanks.

I believe the two issues you will run into is the AIR pipe connection locations and the dip-stick location. Both are correctable, just plan accordingly.

First thing.......the headers that are different are from '01+ (not 2000)

Vettenuts is spot on.

For the Air tube connection, you can buy a replacement that fits the 2001+ cars. You'll need to remove you're intake manifold to do this. The other option is to fabricate a tube. I've seen a few threads where people have cut thier tube, and used hose. I wouldn't recommend it.

For the dip stick, the older cars had the dipstick attach to the manifold, and when you remove that, there'll be no connection point. Newer cars attached to the head directly. I've seen where some have made a small bracket to connect the tube, picking up a convient bolt. Again, using the search you should be able to find more information.

I'd suggest going to http://www.ls1howto.com and following the instructions for the C5 header install. At the bottom, there is a section for older cars.

I bought almost new Kooks headers with high flow cats, an X pipe, and borla stinger for a grand. Way to good of deal to pass up.

P.S. you don't need to be a %&cking ***** about it.

Thanks for the help! I will order that pickup tube today, and make a bracket for the dipstick tube!

If you have the headers in hand, I know my QTP's had the AIR tube setup for the later cars (they were specific to the later years) but there still was the capability to install the older dipstick design. Also, I seem to remember the newer dipstick was relatively cheap but you would need to verify the cost. Might be easier than fabricating a part.

I think I will just order the airtube, and the dipstick tube. Do you think I need to replace the actual dipstick as well?

Well, when you post up " how do I connect them" and "I don't know anything about this", it suggests you either have limited knowledge...don't know what you are doing...or both. That being said, the safe suggestion is to get the correct headers for your car so you will have the least amount of difficulty, and they will bolt up to everything properly. So if making that suggestion is being a *****....I'm guilty as charged.

Finally, you never stated you had already purchased the headers, many guys ask before they buy, so they know if the headers will even work with their car.

It's your car to rig up as you see fit....enjoy...

What is it with the free-floating anger that some people seem to have? I thougjt the guy who suggested buying headers for that year Vette gave a reasonable answer based on the info he had. His reply was well-stated as well. This forum has always been helpful... let's keep the chips off our shoulders.
