Most of the stat's that I've tested the number rating is the beginning opening point, not the wide open point. I found by the time my 160 is wide open which is getting close to 180 then program the fans to keep the temp in the range you are looking for. One thing in HP tuners I have not tried, is the temp you turn the key off so the fans can run for a few minutes after the key is off, 410 sec is max if I remember. Now I just have to figure how to wire the EWP to that as well....
One thing about the 160 thermo, the engine will cool down a lot quicker when shut off. I noticed a drastic dif in cooldown times when I had the 160.The drag guys all like the 160 in part because of this;
the thermo stays open, and the water cycles via convection through the radiator, and quickly gets the engine temp down below 170. With the stocker, the thermo closes at 190 or so, and traps the hot water in the motor.
Great, have you driven it recently now that temps are starting to drop?
Yes vettenuts; outside temperatures were in the 60-70 degree range.
I tested the modded thermostat on the kitchen stove, with a digital thermometer, before putting it back in. The start to open temp, with the .100" shim added, was 172 degrees. The full open temp was 186 degrees.
I don't drive the Vette in the winter, or in temperatures below freezing.
I'll post some updated temp readings in a month or so.

In my 99 I had a stock 192. The car always ran over 200 and in drive thru lines I'd see 220 and higher. So I bought a 180. I've also reprogrammed the fans. The car will run 189 and the car has never exceeded 196 since.
