Default Passenger seat noise "electrical"

Has anyone had this problem I'm experiencing? I haven't had my `01 too long and right after I got it I asked the wife if the passenger seat was comfortable for her and told her how to adjust it. She said it was fine and played with the lumbar and bolster adjustments a little. It wasn't until the other day I found that the forward, back and tilt were not working. First thing I did was to check the fuse (20 amp maxi fuse) only to find there wasn't one. I took the fuse out of the drivers side position and put it in the passenger side recepticle and found that the seat controls all work but there's a relay sounding click coming from under the seat intermitantly. I reached under the seat and felt of the motor that's towards the back of the seat (I think mounted to the floor?) I could feel the click in that motor. I'm sure someone pulled the fuse so there wouldn't be any battery drain or??? What is making this noise? It makes the noise without the key in the ignition.
Is there a relay or something in the motor that could be going south or might it be in the switch itself?
Thanks for any help you can give me!!!

I have a 98 that had a similar problem. My boy left his toy wedged in between the seat and the center console. I didn't know it was there and it kept the seat from moving freely when I tried to move it back. Shortly afterwards the motor started to click non stop and sounded like it was trying to move the seat. I felt underneath and it was very hot. I took it to the dealer and was told the relay needed to be replaced. I forget how much they wanted, but it wasn't cheap. I think it was in the $300+ range. I wound up buying the entire assembly (everything below the seat) from that popular auction site used for around a hundred bucks. I put my seat seat on the new assembly and it has been working fine ever since. Keep in mind the Chevy dealer I took it to tried to bang me for some unnecessary work in the past so I wouldn't be surprised if it was something less expensive.

Good luck.

Thanks, Stan! Where are the relays located? This could be what it is. It's free now and with the fuse in it will move forward and back but the front won't go up or down. The rear does however. It isn't a steady clicking, it's sporadic....., like, click click.........click click and so on. I've read my service manual and it doesn't say where the relays are located. It shows them in the wiring schematic but not in a picture anywhere. I'm probably going to have to pull the seat out and take a look. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Don't be put off by having to lift out the seat... it's one of the easier chores on these cars. best of luck with your repair. Dave

Mine just started running one of the lumbar pumps on and off randomly today. I could move the one switch and it would stop but then start again when I let it back to center so it appears I'll need to pull the switches apart.

There are only a few wires going to the seat so if there are relays for the motors they must be under the seat. I really don't see how a relay would start to cause a click click click. Most likely, a relay would either stick on or no work at all.

I don't know, Peter, I can feel the clicking coming from one of the motors in the back but I don't know what in the motor would click either. Relays will open and close rapidly in some instances, kinda like a turn signal flasher. Beats me but I'd sure like to find out what's goin on under there. The factory service manual just doesn't want to talk about these relays

Sorry. I've been away for a few days. Here is a link which shows the relay. Go to that popular auction site fleabay and enter 320303822042 in the site's search bar and you should see it. Hope this helps.

I checked it out and this one's for a non-memory seat. Bummer, bummer, bummer, but I sure do thank you anyway.

Well, The passenger seat doesn't use the memory anyways so that should be the module.

That could be the problem with mine too, but the lumbar instead of the seat motor is running. I'll get to it some day this fall I hope.

Yeah, Peter, brain fart there...... Thanks, again! I wonder where that puppy is mounted. I found a driver's side seat frame complete with motors and all on flea bay when I was checking out your suggestion. It had pictures of the assy. but didn't show a module or relay anywhere. Don't know if those left side pieces will fit the right side??
Thanks again
