I just bought a 2000 FRC. It's basically "as new" with only 12,000 miles. It was a two-owner car. The seller stated that the car had the original run flats on it. My question is this...Does GM put the wheel weights on the outside of the rim at the factory? I noticed it right away when I first saw the car. By the way, the rims are absolutely perfect, not a mark on them anywhere that I can see. The current owner didn't have anything done with the wheels or tires. Heck, my new Honda even has the weights on the inner part of the rim!
Should I have the wheels re-balanced and the weights moved? I guess it doesn't bother me all that much, but if they're not supposed to be there I'll take care of it before it goes away for the winter...
Thanks,
Rossi

Reason: grammar
When I put new tires on mine I had them put on the sticky weights inside. However I did not watch the installer an he left a couple of marks where he pulled the weight off. He did put on touch up so it did not show (much). The press in weights left marks underneth as well.
I have polished thinspokes (from 2000 year car) that I just changed factory tires on. They had outside wheel weights on them and left marks from under them when removed. Tried to clean, no luck.

If the factory wheel weights have been on several years, they are almost impossible to remove without some marks on the wheels.
I switched to stick on weights when I got new tires, and would not even consider using clip on weights again. It is also hard to find the painted weights used by the factory.
Any problems with the tape-on weights coming off...?
I have used a small bead of clear RTV on all 4 sides of the tape wgts to make sure moisture, etc. does not lift them and to keep them adhered. Just a fillet between the wgt. and rim surface, then smooth with a wet finger to make it very hard to see it.
The extra wgt. of the RTV is almost nothing, so don't worry about it upsetting the balance.
Have used that technique (after losing some previously) up in Illinois on daily drivers, and the snow & salt still did not affect them.
