I know they do, but I have ~ 12K miles on them already with very little wear. I'm going with a better performing tire when they do finally bite it - just can't justify the ~ $1,000+ for tires/installation until then. What have been your experiences?
Re: Do these runcraps ever need replacing??? (vstella)
Heh, you guys must be doing something wrong...I burned mine down (all four of 'em) to the tread wear bars inside 7K miles. Guess it was all that canyon carving plus a couple of track events :D :D
Re: Do these runcraps ever need replacing??? (BRU)
Run Flats are shrewd and manipulative creatures. They have the uncanny ability in fooling fool some owners into thinking they are a good tire by not wearing. They become more convincing when you get a nail - like i did the first month after I bought my car. But where are they when you truly need them, like when you go around corners? Spin Cycle, thats wear!!! Don't fall for it!!!I'm getting rid of them within the next 30 days. I'm hoping I can find a sucker ... I mean buyer ... for them.
Re: Do these runcraps ever need replacing??? (BRU)
I have nearly 8K on mine and no signs of wear yet. I've got another set sitting in the garage for when these burn off. I figured they'd only last about 10-12K like my Camaro tires, but these run flats will probably last well into 20K+ miles. I know most are anti-run flats, but they are worth their weight in gold if you ever get a flat in the middle of no where as I did. :smash:

They're actually not bad, but you must remember to push them WAAAY past the squealing pig noises. They actually have some stick once they dig in. But they will wear like a normal tire at that point. Mine sure did ;)
Where these tires are really poor is in sidewall construction, resulting in lack of compliance. They are way too stiff, which shows up in a choppy ride, and causes the skipping. This problem evaporates with the BFG KD runflats, as well as the Firestone RFPs. Also, those tires do not require special mounting equipment as do the EMTs. Newer and better technology.

My runcraps made it to 25k and started gettin real squirrely in the rain....so I got the Firestones and so far am really happy 1000 bucks for everything out the door
Re: Do these runcraps ever need replacing??? (2000^C5)
The 'craps do last a long time, no doubt, unless you abuse 'em plenty. ;) They are definitley a 'compromise' tire. My biggest beef is that in cold weather they are as slippery as a hockey puck....scares me sometimes!! They'll break loose anytime!
Re: Do these runcraps ever need replacing??? (tracy)
I will usually run tires down to 0/32'nds but I can't seem to wear the rocks down. I've got nearly 22k on them (minus the track miles where I use track tires) and they just won't die.
They are very scary in the cooler weather, like tracy said they break loose at will. Since I just emptied (again) my mod fund on LT headers, X pipe, power duct, and Cross Bar I'll be waiting until spring to get some new rubber.
I've got 2 sets of track tires...they may have more grip in the rain than the run rocks!

You don't have to justify spending for the tires. Order your new rubber from Tirerack.com or wherever you are going to get it then just go out to a parking lot, do a personal burnout contest (take pics) and then have the new rubber mounted. There is no rule you have to wear out those puppies first! :D
Re: Do these runcraps ever need replacing??? (BRU)
Nope, things damn things are indestructable! :D After 28,000 miles, my fronts still look brand new, and the rears are just now looking like they may need replacing soon. And that's after HEAVY drag racing, and a driving school at Watkins Glen. Plus, I drive the car pretty hard on the street. Keep the car aligned and these things are good for well over 30k miles with easy driving. I'm ripping them off in a couple months and going with the Nittos, can't wait! :D
