I'm not racer, I just want a good maneuverable ride, and at 56,000 miles I figure I must be due for new shocks. The big Corvette catalogs seem to push Biltstein, but how about KYB, or even Munro or other generics? Does Autozone have something decent anybody could recommend?

I installe some 07 C6 ZO6 shocks on my 02 ZO6. There 100% bolt in replacement shocks (NO mods necessary) and the difference in the maneuverability of the car was very noticible. I didnt have any problems with my 50K mile OEM shocks other than the car had a tendance to lose stability going round sweeping washboard/rut turns.
The C6 Z shocks took care of that!!! Best part about the swap, all FOUR can be had for around $240 bucks. Contact gene Culley ( www.gmpartshouse.com )

Bluemill,
Don't know about KYB, but stay away from Monroe and other generics -- there is a technology difference between Bilstein (mono-shocks) and others which DOES make a difference.
The Bilstein shocks are original for a reason, we put new ones (FX3's) on our 94 (from Eckler's) and it rides great.
We put monroes on the rear of our 2000 TransAm and hate them, harsh hard ride with no handleing improvement over OEM (of course before the OEM leaked and needed replacment).
This sounds like a great deal, and I'm sticking with GM/AC/Delco which is always a better idea. I've got an FE-1 soft ride suspension that I've long suspected maybe a little too mushy.

I'll be going this way for sure!

C6z06 shocks from Gene !! While you're at it, upgrade your sway bars to the C6 Z51 bars from Gene too - great price on those like $200 or so !! You won't believe the diference.
All I can tell ya is, my car use to be unstable going around rough turns. Now I take turns at higher speeds without worring about the car stepping sideways as much!
My old 2002 C5 ZO6 were not worn out a 48K but the C6 Z SHOCKS woke up the handling.
Anyone besides "Stormrider" with the Koni FSD's? I put them on a another vehicle and couldn't believe BOTH the improvement in comfort and in handling. They're spendy compared to "regular" shocks, but you may well get your monies worth. They supposed have dual valving so that over tar strips, they're very soft, but firm up for large bumps or side sway.
If my magnetic shocks (now that's really spendy) go bad, I think the FSD's are what I'm going to use.
Take it from a local, around Massachusetts you won't like the Z06 Shocks on your every day driver.
I tried them a few years ago. Basically what I did was purchase new C6 Z06 Shocks and installed them. Drove them for a few weeks up here in northern MA. Found them to be too stiff and harsh.
I found a set of used Z51 shocks over on the C6 For Sale section. Got a good deal with less that 1K miles.
The Z51 Shocks fit the bill perfectly with ride and handling. These along with my C5 Z06 Sway Bars made my C5 handle like a Corvette is supposed to.
FYI, keep in mind that both the Z06 Shocks and the Z51 shocks are higher pressure than stock shocks and will actually lift your vehicle slightly.
I just added these with some Z06 sways. Put the Koni's on, you will not regret it. These things were worth every penny IMO. The thing I like the best is that they removed the harshness out of driving on crappy Indiana roads.
